Apple iPad
posted 2 years agoYesterday Apple announced the widely speculated tablet format device that they have named the iPad. However much potential this device has across various sectors (medical, education, aviation etc…) it appears that the name, not the specs, is getting the most attention. Personally I think the name fits the device, an “Internet Notepad”. Unfortunately like the iPhone it will take some time (and the actual release of the device) to convince many that this is a legitimate device that will define a new segment of mobile computing. Yes there are currently software limitations but look at the software on the 1st gen iPhone with no apps and compare it to today, big difference. Apple has done one thing no other device manufacturer has been able to do so far and that is to build platforms in slightly different flavors (iPod touch, iPhone and now ipad) that serve unique purposes but are all able to tap into the “killer app” of the app store and continually updated firmware. Do you remember ever updating the software on your Motorolla StarTac to get new features? When you buy one of these devices the expectation is that it will evolve with time. New software releases will only improve functionality of this rev 1 device.
